Another Circle Entry

This week's theme is animals.  I don't own any pets (it cuts down on vaccuuming when there is no pet hair!) but I thought of these pictures of a bird's nest from 2009.  I am actually still working on my 2006 albums (almost done!) and of course my Disney albums.
Anyway, here is this week's entry:

The branch was cut at 2.5 from SFTN and I used flip so it would go on the left-hand page.  The bird came from AK and was cut at 3, also on flip.  The title was cut at 4in from SFTN and the nest was at 3.5, also from SFTN.  There are stickles in the middle of the flowers.  I layered the bird with a black body on black-out, so his eye would be black, then a yellow whole bird so I'd get the beak and feet, then a brown body.  The red belly I did with chalk and I highlighted along the cut lines with a pen.  I also used a Fiskars texture plate in my big shot to give the bird some feathers.  I didn't have a cuttlebug folder that gave me the right texture (guess I need to buy some more!).  I secured the bird with foam tape so he'd be raised above the branch.  the eggs in the nest are also adhered with foam tape.  The nest is a shadow, then two layers off-centered so both shades of brown would show.  the background paper is from K & Company's Berry Sweet. One brown  and the speckled brown are from CM, all other solid colors from SU, as well as the pens and chalk.

Halloween Pages

So I tend to scrap mostly chronologically, though I do jump around a bit.  I have special albums for special occasions and then I have a yearly family album.  The family album I keep chronologic but I am way, way behind.  I am finishing up 2006!  The three snow days we had this week helped.  We stayed home-no school, no dance or gymnastics-and played the Wii and scrapped.  I finished some Halloween pages.

Love these pages!  The cuts are from Happy Hauntings, Oct 31st and the crescent moon on the hat came from George and Basic Shapes.  I did not record the sizes I used.  The paper is all DCWV.  I love, love, love the fonts on HH and the frames.  I freehand cut my picture to go in the frame and messed it up so you could see a little of the yellow under it, so I traced around the edge with gunmetal Stickles and it covered up my mistake.

The other pages use K and Company paper.  The cuts came from Wild Cards and Create a Critter.  I used the suede/velvet paper for the dark brown on the monkey.

The pumpkin frame was cut from Wild Cards and I stamped the sentiment in white ink.

I made the banana my journaling box.  I raised the peel up with foam tape and the banana easily slides in and out so I had plenty of room.

Christmas Dress layout

I appreciate the weekly challenges on the circle blog because they force me to complete at least one project a week!  I start classes again tomorrow so I don't know if I will have time each week, but over my Christmas break I did get a lot done.  This week we had a sketch to follow and we had to incorporate stamping and buttons.  Here's what I came up with:

I used several carts.  The star border came from Winter Frolic, cut at 3 1/4.  Christmas was off Beyond Birthdays, cut at 1 1/4.  I finally used my Don Juan cart (got it with Reward points!) to cut out dress, at 1 1/4, using the Under Pressure feature.  I wanted chunky letters so I could stamp them using a Stampin Up background stamp, posy.  I stamped with a Martha Stewart glue pad, then sprinkled with black fun flock to mimic the flower pattern on my daughter's Christmas dress.  The stamped letters are my favorite part of the layout.  The flowers are flower3 from the wedding cart.  I had saved the buttons off an old coat and had my husband cut the shanks off so I could glue them on.

Ice Skating

Here is my entry for the latest circle challenge.  We had to use metal,white paint and a snowflake cut to create a winter feel.  I have been dying to do the eyelet laces on an ice skate so I figured this would be a good incentive, since eyelets are metal.  All cricut cuts are from Winter Woodland.  Paper is DCWV and CM.  The two photo mats are sized to hold 4x6 photos.  The journaling space was run through the cuttlebug with the snowflake embossing folder (don't think it showed up in the picture).  I will print my journaling in black ink on the silver background.

For the pond, I used DCWV glitter paper covered with the plastic cut from the shell the cricut cartridges come in.  I smeared some white paint to give it an icy feel.

Weekly Circle Challenge

I can't believe I haven't posted since October!  I was going crazy trying to finish my autograph books before our Disney trip and I did get them done.  They were well worth the work.  I haven't taken pictures to upload yet, but I promise I will.
In the meantime, here is the project I made for the weekly circle challenge.  This week's entry had to be in a shape other than a square or rectangle, include a number and bling, and have the usual two cricut cuts.





The crown card was cut from Birthday Bash at fit to page, which ended up being 5 3/4.  I used the gold paper from the DCWV Christmas and Winter combo cardstock stack.  The silver came from the new DCWV Shimmer stack.  Princess was cut from Once Upon a Princess at 1 inch out of DCWV shimmer paper.  The 4aday originally said "queen" but I just cut that part off. I cut that phrase at 1 1/4.  Instead of using this as a card, it is going to be the journaling box on a page of pictures from the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique.

DAB-Pooh and Friends

Yet more Disney pages!  Today, I finished Pooh and Friends.  Pooh is very basic.  I cut Pooh(3) out of SU black for the base, Crushed curry for the 'skin,' and I think the red for the shirt came from CM, but I'm not sure.  I keep my SU paper separate for easy matching when I am making a card (I have all the pens, a bunch of ink, some ribbon and patterned paper).  The rest of my solid paper I keep in a drawer, sorted by color, so forgive me if I don't always know exactly what color and brand I used.  As usual, I cut an extra nose for dimension.  The background paper has little bees on it and came in a CM Pooh pack years ago.  I had one sheet left and needed four, so I scanned it with my printer and made copies-not perfect, but it worked.  The photo mat is sized for a 6x4 photo and is just the black and crushed curry layered. The signature box has an added layer of white and I have been using my mega stack of GP from Sam's Club.  I cut "Pooh" at fit to length the size I wanted for the page (can't remember what it ended up being).

Tigger wasa little more involved. Last year, I wanted him to "bounce" on the page so I made him a slider, adapting a technique I'd seen on DIY's old scrapbook show. The kids love to bounce him and so the slider bent quickly. I learned from my mistake. This year, I used two layers of the heavy-duty SU basic black for the slider. I thought about using chipboard but thought it might be too heavy. I cut four strips at about 1 inch by 6 inches and glued two together, on top of each other. Then I laminated them.

I chose my background paper from the DCWV citrus stack and I made two parellel slits, about a 1/4 of an inch apart, along the side of the paper where I wanted to place Tigger. They can't go all the way to the end of the paper.  I also put a 1 1/4 in slit perpendicular to the lines along the top.  Last year, I let my slider come out the top of the page and it stuck up too far, so this time I made it come up through the page and it is perfect-up enough to grab, not sticking out really far.

Then I cut a 1in by 3in strip of the black and used my Martha Stewart score board (bought with the 50% Oprah coupon) for the first time.  I scored at 1/2in, 1 in, 2in and 2 1/2 and bent like so:

Then you put the feet through the slits so the two 1/4 in pieces are on the back of the paper.

Heavy duty adhesive is important. On the back, adhere the 1x6 laminated strip, trimming to fit the page as desired.  Then pop the top up through the slit. I added the SU tab punch to make it easy to pull.  Then adhere Tigger and pull him so he "bounces" up and down!

Of course, the noses are all double-layers. I just used rectangles for the autograph boxes-saving the fancy ones for the princesses.  Piglet is simple, too. His background came from DCWV summer paper stack.  All his pinks are SU: pink pirouette, pretty in pink and regal rose.

 Eeyore is a little more interactive again. Being true to the story, Eeyore's tail always falls off. So I used a magnet to make it removable.  I really like the thin Basic Grey magnets but they were too big for the tail.  I did use the thin one under Eeyore and the thicker but smaller one under the tail.  Not sure what colors I used and Eeyore was cut at 3 in-in retrospect, he could have been a little bigger.

Background paper is more DCWV Citrus stack. If you are interested, this is the magnet packaging. The Basic Grey ones are obviously designed for scrapbooking and came from my local scrap store. The others are thicker and came from Walmart.

Grad School Poster Project

Last week we had to do a poster presentation for my nursing theory class.  It was a little like 8th grade science fair, where you stand in front of your project while people- in this case, the faculty and other classmates-wander around looking at the posters and asking questions.  I felt a little nauseated but I think it went okay.  I don't have my grade yet but people were impressed with my "professional" lettering and medical icons.  I used the cricut every day paper dolls cart.

I uses Real Dial Size to get the stethoscope, syringe and bandaid large enough.  The nurse was cut at 7 inches.  The letters are from PS.  Paper is Deep Blue and Raspberry from CM, the nurse's scrub top was from an old CM pink pack. The bandaid is CM french vanilla, stethoscope SU basic black and DCWV metallic silver, syringe CM white and DCWV metallic silver. Thanks for looking.
